Never Late Nate
Abenteeism in pre-k and kindergarden predicts lower test scores as well as poor attendance and retention in later grades. In order to address this issue in Baltimore, High schoolers in Wide Angle Youth Media's Attendance and Design Team created a superhero character, Never Late Nate, to appeal to younger students and help promote attendance in the early grades. Never Late Nate posters have been distributed to all Baltimore City elementary schools and his interactive attendance activity book is used in Pre-K and K classrooms with Experience Corps. He has also been known to make appearances at the Mayor's Back To School Rally and different school events.
